The Kindle project
by Aidan Blum Levine
A Kindle is an electronic book reading tablet.
You can buy books or get free books for it. It is
about a quarter of an inch thick and half a foot
wide. You can now buy one for $79.
Your school newspaper is sponsoring a project
to see how a Kindle can be used in a classroom.
Happening at the Healey wants 5th-8th graders
to help find out how a Kindle can be useful in a
classroom. We challenge you to write an
interesting and convincing proposal on how
your class can share and use a Kindle if you
had one. We will read all the articles to find
which one might be the best idea for a
classroom to use a Kindle. We will award a
Kindle to the classroom of the best idea, to see
what they do with it. Then you should write an
article on what you and your class did with the
Kindle and what conclusion you might make
about whether a Kindle is a useful tool for a
classroom.
Rules: You can earn a Kindle for your classroom. Write an article explaining what your class could do with a kindle to find out whether kindles can be shared and put to good use in a classroom. Articles may be written by one or more students. The class may assist in coming up with ideas and in helping to write the article. Entries should be submitted using the form on this page. Entries should be submitted by January 20, 2011. Decisions will be made on or about February 1, 2012. The class accepting the Kindle agrees to use the Kindle according to the winning proposal or a modification of it and write a report on their experience and recommendations for classroom use of Kindles.
