The Comeback Kids
by Zack Colleran

The St. Louis Cardinals. The name that was
stuck in every baseball fans' minds just a few
weeks ago. When you think of the Cardinals,
you think of the St. Louis arch, barbeque, and a
decent baseball team. Well, this year they just
pounded everyone's expectations. The
National League Wild Card team, this team
was a dream come true to St. Louis fans from
the first game in the playoffs. Then, they just
made people more surprised by beating the
Phillies in the NLDS (National League Division
Series), and then slaughtering Milwaukee fans'
hopes by beating the Brewers in the NLCS
(National League Championship Series), to
make it to the world series against the Texas
Rangers, the runner-up in last year's World
Series.
Though the Cardinals may not seem like they
have much to show for, they actually have the
most World Series titles in the National
League(11), and are only second in the MLB to
the New York Yankees. St. Louis has played in
a total of 18 World Series: 1926, 1928, 1930,
1931, 1934, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1946, 1964,
1967, 1968, 1982, 1985, 1987, 2004, 2006,
2011. Just in their records of their NL Pennants
you can see that St. Louis was on a big roll in
the mid 1900s. Some people may think of St.
Louis as just an okay team, but if they knew
what the Cards really have done, they their
minds would probably change. The Cardinals
actually played the Philadelphia Athletics in
both the 1930 and 1931 World Series.
Philadelphia won in 1930, but the Cardinals
came back to get themselves a  WS title.
St. Louis has been home to many successful
players, including Rogers Hornsby, who won
two Triple Crowns with the Cardinals, and
Mark McGwire, who broke the rookie record
for 49 home runs in one season, and had a
career average of one home run per every
10.61 at bats, which was the lowest in history
(and that's good!).
The Cards have been playing at Busch
Stadium in downtown St. Louis since 2006, the
year they won the world series to the Detroit
Tigers in five games. The Tigers surprisingly
had a better record that year, with 95 wins and
67 losses, and St. Louis was down with 83
wins and 78 losses. Even so, though, St. Louis,
much like this year, pounded country wide
expectations and beat the Tigers in five.

GIANTS: A SUPER
BOWL REMATCH
by Zack Colleran

   The 2012 Super Bowl
contenders are the New England
Patriots and the New York Giants.
This is the same feared matchup
that put a very successful 2008
Patriots down to nothing once
again. It had started with a
completely undefeated season from
the Pats, and then they were just
stumped by Eli Manning and his
pack of Giants.

This year will be different, though.
The Patriots have toughened out,
and they have a good running and
passing game on offense. They
have new and returning players to
the Super Bowl, and that will
hopefully make a difference. There
are some downsides, though. The
Giants did start off the season
strong in the first six games, with
only one loss, but then downward
spiraled with close to the other half
of the season. They got their game
back on top, though, and fought
through to make it to the playoffs.

   The Patriots have faced the
Giants this season, and they both
know how each of them play. The
patriots last loss this season before
an undefeated run to the playoffs,
though, was to the Giants. This is a
side-effect that the Pats should
jump on and practice hard in the of-
week to come back to the ‘Bowl
and show the Giants some
unexpected football.

All-in-all, though, this is a great
Super Bowl match-up and will
definitely make for an exciting
Super Bowl final.
